Summer Daze
by Rob Kinder on 04/17/12
The sunshine is finally here and the snow is rapidly melting. We hope that everyone enjoys their last few weeks of school. Summer is right around the corner.
Alaska has a wealth of
opportunities for exploring, recreation, and fun. There are abundant structured activities
tailored for kids and the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner has a comprehensive
collection in their Summer Fun for Kids online magazine: http://issuu.com/newsminer/docs/2012-summerfun
Random Acts of Kindness & Riddles
by Rob Kinder on 02/07/12
February is Random Acts of Kindness month. Students and family members are encouraged to do at least three RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) this month. Kind acts can be as simple as opening a door for someone or telling someone that you appreciate him or her. Students can also help out with chores around the house and play games with their siblings. Every student in the school will make a RAK Heart Pledge with their RAK goals posted for the entire school to see. Check out all the hearts in the hallways!
February's Riddles
Thanks for Grace for this riddle:
1. What is the difference between "here" and "there?"
2. What word spelled forwards and backwards means: love, caring, kindness, and compassion? (Hint: There are two words and these words are some of the first words that children learn).
2012 Opportunities
by Rob Kinder on 01/17/12
Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing Winter Break.
Clothing Exchange
Please donate old and clean winter gear to the shopping carts, located outside the commons. Donated items will be available for Crawford families. Thank you.
New Year's Resolutions
2012 promises to be a year filled with opportunities. All students are strongly encouraged to create two New Year's Resolutions. One resolution should focus on academics and one can be on any other topic. Resolutions should be realistic, specific, and measurable. Please share your goals with your parents.
Health Unit
The students are studying health in the Peace Room during their Counseling Special. The first two lessons focus on exercise and nutrition. The students are strongly encouraged to participate in the President's Fitness Challenge and to eat a healthy diet using the My Plate Super Tracker.
Ski Club
The Ski Club meets every Wednesday after school until Spring Break. Thirty lucky students were chosen at random to participate in the Ski Club. During the season the students will learn how to ski and practice skiing for about an hour every week.
